Routines Shape the Futures Ahead
Now that we are in October, it looks like students have found their rhythm and are settled into a solid routine at school. This week, we are conducting our green stripe testing, and it’s great to see how students have focused on the task at hand.
A little over a month ago, we were in the lazy days of summer, and the impending return to school seemed like it might pose a challenging feat. Fortunately, the kids at the karate school were able to maintain structure throughout the summer, so when the time came, the transition had little to no impact.
Having a routine is crucial to success in life. This past week, I spoke with one of my kids’ former teachers who had recently retired—or so I thought. After a few minutes of conversation, I realized he had been retired for almost seven years, but it seemed as if the time had flown by, and he looked just as I remembered. When I asked him how he fills his time, he listed about 30 activities he does weekly. Almost every part of his routine was healthy and had set him up to live a vibrant, active lifestyle.
We often take for granted the routines created for us during childhood and forget the impact they had on us. If structure is so important for kids, why wouldn’t it be just as important for us as adults? Perhaps now is the time to reevaluate our schedules and see how we can fill our days, weeks, and months with activities that move us closer to the lifestyle we deserve.
It’s only October, but we still have a couple of months left in 2024 to ensure that some of the goals we set at the beginning of the year still happen. With a little routine and discipline, let’s motivate ourselves to finish the year on a major win.
And next time you are feeling unmotivated, remember what Mike Murdock said: “The Secret of your Future, is Hidden in your Daily Routine!”
