March Break Mastery

This past weekend, I was speaking with a few parents who were stressing about the upcoming March break and what to do. They felt like they needed to provide some kind of special fun for their kids since they were off school. We discussed the usual activities—bowling, indoor playgrounds, camps, movies, and many other ideas. Then one parent asked me, “Are you guys open?” to which I emphatically answered, “Yes, all classes are running!”

I casually reminded them that they were already bringing their kids to class, so why not just continue with the normal routine this week? Sticking to the routine can help keep kids grounded and appreciative of what they already do, not to mention the incredible benefits they gain from physical activity. It’s no secret that karate is essential for both mental and physical health. So, if it has been a positive influence so far, why not use the extra time to make up for missed classes and work towards the goal of Black Belt Excellence?

After a brief pause, the parent considered it, went online, booked the class, and felt a sense of relief knowing that something beneficial was planned for the week.

This is an important week as we prepare for Saturday’s belt testing and the March 22 graduation ceremony. Let’s make the most of it—it’s only Monday, and we have a full week of success ahead! Sure, you might have a few extra hours on your hands this week, but that makes it even easier to ensure your kids get to class and stay focused on their goals.

I understand that unexpected things happen during breaks—whether it’s travel, an injury, or just a change in routine. But that doesn’t mean you have to hit the pause button. Life will always throw challenges our way, but don’t let them derail you or your family. Each missed week is a missed opportunity.

It’s only Monday, and there are seven full days ahead. Let’s use them wisely and not let the week slip away. When Saturday comes, you’ll feel pumped knowing you’ve put in the work and are ready to test.

Oh, and next week, when your friends ask, “What did you do for March break?” you can proudly say, “I took one step closer to Black Belt!”
